Sew more of the stash has gone!

Every year I make some of these "pillowcase" dresses, my mum
loves them as my Nan made them for all of the kids in our family and Nan's mum
used to make them for her too to go to the beach in (this always makes me smile and
think of the blog I once read warning reader "never to copy HER design" - it was a
pillowcase dress! That is like saying you invented the drawstring bag!")
Anyhow, this year's model is a wee bit more speccie as I have added a swishy big
frill!!  This one is for Miss M.

Here is Miss M in her new PJ's made from some lovely
voile I had in the stash.

Again I added a frill - I am just ruffle crazy at the moment!
Time to invest in a ruffle foot methinks!

The cheapo basic Singer machine is doing ok!
2013 I think will see me install a newbie though and
now I just can't imagine sewing without using an
overlocker.

Here is Miss Smiley, clearly not into modelling that day!

A Pink theme for beautiful Birthday Girl

On the weekend we celebrated Miss 9's upcoming birthday.

The theme was pink - a crafters dream!

Most was handmade, homemade!
Table runners, bunting, party bags full of feminine loot!

A 1975 Holly Hobbie cake tin was used for the cake,
tissue paper balls, Cath Kidson party ware...oh so lovely!

Vintage style cupcakes! Remember having these ballerinas gracing
birthday cakes in the 1970s?

Tea cups!

And a beautiful birthday girl!

Sewing, sewing, sewing!!

I haven't been sewing for ages. Recently I dug out my overlocker and the very, very basic Singer sewing machine I bought for Martha to play on as my beloved old Janome has been put out to pasture after 20 years of faithful service.

I didn't really want to, but I have some things to sew for Miss M's upcoming "Pink" birthday party. So I have made an array of pretty pink things and then I looked at my stash.  There is was, bursting out of containers and shelves and I asked myself this very important question that every crafter needs to ask oneself "are you a sewer or a collector of fabric?"

Good question! So I have decided to be a sewer not a fabric collector and I am sewing. I found some gorgeous fruity prints "waiting for something special" - well it is special time!
I knocked up a pretty sundress for Miss M using the tried and true "pillow case" style my nan used to make me and her mum used to make her and her sisters to go to the beach in the 1920's. This year's version is spectacular! I added a big frill on the bottom and voila! Gorgeous dress! In fact I have dug out some more fabric to make 2 more like this for upcoming birthdays....Pictures to come of this.

Then I found some lovely navy fabric emblazoned with cherries and blossoms, I found a pattern and made this little button through peasant style frock.  Now with some lovely vintage styled patterned voile I  am making Miss M some lovely cool PJ's - oh I can't stop!!

My camera is out of charge so I will leave you with this pic from my IPhone of the cherry dress - sorry about the quality : )

Sew finally!

Good evening and happy Melbourne Cup! Did your gi gi come in?
No mine didn't either  - Mr G puts $1 dollar on a horse every year for each of
us - that is a King's ransom of $5 a year frittered away on horse racing tsk tsk!

Anyway, instead of glamming up and going to the races or having our own party for
Melbourne cup - Miss M and I got productive!

Miss M is having a "Pink" party for her 9th Birthday, she opted for a home
party because " I like your parties best Mummy"...awwww, so sweet.
Miss M made these gorgeous cupcake toppers all by herself.
We downloaded some vintage images of little girls' faces, printed them off,
punched out scalloped pink shapes and the faces, assemble with toothpick and voila!
Miss M did them all by herself which made her feel very good about her skills.
ahh another generation of crafters in the family!

I am a bit nutty about the party bags - I have to theme it down to the last lolly!
These fabric roses are actually hair ties and will go in the bags.

There will be more goodies to be shown including a dress I made today!!
Yes! I am finally sewing again! But you will have to wait until my next post to see it!
Have a lovely week lovelies

The boudoir make over

You may recall I started a make over before I went on holidays
It all started with this purchase. A grey and white floral doona cover from IKEA.

Then I decided to go back and play with wall colour - you see I have been on a white
bender for a few years now.

Well it is finished now!

My plantation shutters are installed. And the walls painted a dark grey.

I recycled a few things like cushions and the cane heart which has hung in various
locations around the house.

Sadly my antique dresser has spat out all of its knobs and the runners leave saw
dust on my clothes every time a drawer was opened - it was time to say goodbye.
So I bought this IKEA tall boy in white.
Now all I need is new carpet and a new full length mirror and it is all done!

Once upon a vintage tea towel

there was a Spring time cushion
just dying to get out from that flat old vintage tea towel

And one day a keen crafter made it happen!
Oh how lovely that cushion looked.
The tea towel scraps on the table looked at the cushion wistfully and sighed.
"Oh how we wish we could be a cushion too"

Well the keen crafter heard the scraps plea and being the compassionate
crafter that she was, pulled out something special from her stash of fabrics
and turned the tea towel scraps into another cushion!

Oh thank you Miss Prudence the scraps who were no longer scraps on a table, but
also a lovely Spring time cushion, cried.
Together they all lived on the couch happily and brightly.
